PAWN CHECKMATES THE KING :

"Reason and Judgement are the qualities of a Leader" -Tacitus.

The clean image of Manmohan Singh has suffered some heavy blows with the revelation of A.Raja, the main accused in 2G scam, that the Prime Minister and the then FM P.Chidambaram were well aware of and approved the spectrum allocation proceedings all along. Now we know why Dr.Manmohan Singh is firing on all cylinders to keep the Prime Minister's office outside the purview of the proposed Lokpal.

Mr.Raja claims that he only followed in the footsteps of his predecessors in the NDA government

who had adopted the first-come-first serve policy instead of the more profitable auctioning method for 2G spectrum allocation and that this decision was approved by the Union Cabinet. He (Raja) went on to say, "If the policy pursued by me was wrong, then all former Telecom Ministers since 1993 should also be in jail with me. If I had auctioned spectrum, that would have been a crime, as it was a Union Cabinet decision".But what Mr.Raja failed to note was that a wrong decision in the past can be amended for the welfare of the citizens in the future.

It is hard to believe that the Cabinet headed by an Economist Prime Minister did not foresee the possible loses that the Govt. of India would incur if it went ahead with a Seven year old policy formulated during the NDA regime. One does not require a "magic wand" to predict a loss of Rs. 1.76 lakh crores (US$40 billion) if the 2G spectrum is sold in 2008 at a price set in 2001.Thus, it clearly questions the integrity of Manmohan Singh, who with a vast experience as minister of finance, RBI governor and Dy.Chairperson of Planning Commission gave his nod to the first-come-first serve policy which led to the largest scam in the history of India.
